May is festival season at Konyang University. The name of festival, Hansol Daedongje, is originated from the Konyang University's symbolic pine tree, "Hansol", a big pine tree, that symbolizes magnificence and traditional beauty. When the university was established, students called the pine tree on campus "Hansol". Since then, two big student's activities, Hansol Daedongje and Hansol Sports Festival have kept the name. Many students, faculty, staff, and local people have taken part in the festivals and had good relations so that the festivals have been promoted not only to the student's activity, but also to the local event. Hansol Daedongje is composed of academic, cultural, and performing programs. The academic programs introduce each major's activities such as literary exhibitions, a meeting with writers, cooking competition, machinery assembly, sports events, on-line games, robot football game and so on which students have experienced on campus. The cultural programs include events--various games, swap market, and bazaar prepared by the Student's Union and different clubs. Performing programs give closing highlights on the festival. Many popular singers, actors, actresses are invited to share their young ardor with students. This year, sponsored by MBC, ten popular artists visited the campus to help celebrate the University's 10th foundation anniversary. The festival gives an opportunity for the local people to take part in and see the vision of Konyang University that has tried to bring up the people who are necessary in local development. Konyang University plans to promote the festival into an event that demonstrates the university's motto.
