Department of Medicine [Go to Homepage]

The school has major responsibilities for providing students with clinical experience in general clinical medicine as well as basic science correlations, patient interviewing, and physical and laboratory diagnosis and problem solving. The Medical School also provides students with rigorous programs designed to prepare them for distinguished careers in medicine. Emphasis is placed on the application of scientific principles to human problems. With the aid of the most sophisticated and modern medical facilities, its affiliated hospital enables physicians to serve the needs of the local community as well as of society as a whole. The school makes significant contributions to training medical residents and subspecialty fellows, and to continuing education for practicing physicians in the communities in its affiliated hospital that was established in February, 2000.
The school is dedicated to a broad, interdisciplinary outlook in all of its programs which emphasizes the unity of the medical sciences, health care, and scholarship.

Department of Nursing Science [Go to Homepage]

Founded in 1995, the Konyang University Department of Nursing offers a four-year program of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing. At the completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the national examination for licensure as a registered nurse(R.N). In 2000, the department of Nursing provides two program options to achieve the Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN) degree.
In 2002, the Graduate Nursing program was opened to offer the Master of Science in Nursing(MS). The areas of specialization offered are: Nursing administration, Adult Health Nursing, Maternal Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing.
Nursing is a profession and an academic discipline. Therefore, a professional nursing education should occur in institutions of higher education. The faculty is committed to curricula that view nursing as a human science in which the primary concern is the health care of Man from conception through death. A creative, flexible, and dynamic environment supports curricula in which students can pursue scholarly excellence. The curricula and environment are strengthened by the faculty's commitment to excellent teaching, scholarship and research, and professional and community service. In making explicit the philosophy that underpins the curricula, the concepts of Man, Environment, and Health are implicit in the meaning of the concepts of Nursing as a human science.

Program Purpose and Goal
The Purposes of the program are:
1. To prepare generalists who are accountable for their nursing practice, accept responsibility for the management of nursing care, and serve as advocates in variety of health care settings.
2. To provide a foundation for graduate study.
The goals of this program state upon completion of the program, the graduate:
1. Promotes the rights, responsibilities, and dignity of man in health care.
2. Synthesizes knowledge from the related sciences, the humanities and nursing theories in applying the nursing process.
3. Utilizes political, cultural, and social processes in promoting the health of individuals within their environment.
4. Utilizes the nursing process in the promotion of health with the individual/family/group/community along the life continuum in a variety of settings.
5. Initiates health care from the perspective of the individual/family/group/community's value system.
6. Utilizes knowledge of ethical and legal dimensions in nursing practice decisions.
7. Accepts responsibility and accountability for nursing practice.
8. Assumes the role of advocate in participating with other health care providers and consumers in the promotion of health.
9. Utilizes leadership skills for the improvement of health care to meet the emerging needs of consumers in changing society.
10. Strives to enhance the profession of nursing.
11. Enhances own effectiveness in professional nursing roles through on-going evaluation and continuous self-growth.
12. Synthesizes principles of the teaching and learning process to promote the health of individuals/families/group/community.

Degree
The department of nursing undergraduate program leads th the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A minimum of 141 credits are required for graduation with a bachelor's degree.
The profession of Nursing is one of the most exciting health-care fields today. With changes in society and in the health-care system, the role of the nurse has become increasingly complex and challenging. The knowledge explosion in biomedical technology, as well as in nursing research and theory development, has been remarkable. Emphasis on health promotion and primary prevention, together with the emergence of new chronic and life-threatening health conditions, creates a need for advanced knowledge and skills in nursing practice. The scientific knowledge, artistry, and creativity of nurses is essential to helping clients, families, and communities manage.

Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science [Go to Homepage]

The department of biomedical laboratory science was established in 2005 and located in Daejeon campus with Konyang University Hospital. The headquarters of Konyang University is located in Nonsan City. The main goal of this department is to find the cause of a disease and suggest the direction of clinical therapy utilizing highly scientific and professional medical techniques.
Medical technologist together with medical doctor play an important role in the field of biomedical laboratory science examining the state and origin of a disease, checking the prognosis and progress of a clinical therapy. To become a medical technologist, one should graduate the department of biomedical laboratory science and obtain the licence certified by a secretary of ministry of health and welfare in Korea. Medical technologist is an eligible and professional occupation for improving the quality of human life.
