School of Public Service Adminstration

Public administration can be viewed as government in action. In today's society, with increasingly complex problems to be solved, there is great need for imaginative, sensitive, and highly skilled public administrators, managers, and analysts. The School combines Public Administration, Police Administration, and Social Welfare Major and provides students with theoretical knowledge and specific skills essential for professional achievement in the public and non-profit sectors.

  The Public Administration Major is focused on preparing future public officials who will work at both central and local governments through giving them an understanding of public policy phenomena and having them acquire practical skills. The primary goal of the Public Administration Major is to teach the students about the various theories and techniques of public administration so that they can contribute to better functioning of governments in the future. Installed in 1993, the major has developed various course work and enabled graduates to be competent professionals who can solve complicated public problems with their creativeness and pragmatism, which has been caused by the dynamic interaction of globalization, localization, information exchanges, and democracy.

  The Police Administration Major prepares future law enforcement officials with a solid background in basic rules and regulations of police administration, general law applicable to law enforcement and related politics and economics. Legal professionals and administrators find themselves in continual challenges to renew and reform the existing regulations and laws in order to meet the demands of societal wants and needs. The major is designed to provide the necessary knowledge to become effective legal professionals, police officials, and administrators.


Social Welfare Major (connected)

  Based upon the people-oriented philosophy, the goal of the Social Welfare Major is to understand the diverse social problems and social welfare things confronting a changing society and to increase the ability of graduate to solve them as in the role of professional social welfare ideologies, philosophy and policies, so to approach social problems from various perspectives. Graduates are able to acquire the 2nd Grade Social Worker's certificate and work for various private or government social welfare institutes or foundations.


Activities

1. Regular study tour to important public organizations, such as the Blue House, Congress, and KBS
2. Symposium: The major holds symposium to assist the students who are preparing civil official examination with study process. Many civil officials, alumni, and famous lecturers have taken part in the symposium.
